Position Overview

Thrive Elementary School is seeking a 1.0 FTE Behaviourist (Therapeutic Behaviour Assistant) to provide a range of behavioural and emotional support services to students in a Kindergarten to Grade 6 inclusive classroom environment.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Work closely with our Emotional Behavioural Specialist and classroom teams to plan and deliver individualized and group strategies that support student success.
  • Help students build social, emotional, and behavioural skills through structured activities and positive reinforcement.
  • Create and prepare engaging instructional and behavioural materials tailored to student needs.
  • Track progress and maintain confidential records of programs, observations, and outcomes.
  • Monitor interventions and recommend adjustments to ensure effectiveness.
  • Share updates and insights with the team through clear communication and collaboration.
  • Model strategies for classroom teams and support consistent implementation.
  • Participate in professional development and assist with workshops to grow your expertise.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: Diploma in Disability Studies or a related field. Additional training in behavioural therapy, psychology, or special education is a bonus.
  • Experience: Hands-on experience working with children in educational or therapeutic settings (pediatric experience is an asset).
  • Strong knowledge of positive behaviour supports, inclusion principles, and effective communication strategies.
  • Understanding of crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and the impact of developmental delays or disorders.
  • Familiarity with inclusive education practices and modern learning approaches.
  • Excellent teamwork skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently when needed.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced school environment.
